Artifacts #7 & 8: Technology and the Arts

Classic funhouses usually had some version of a dark hallway where technology was applied for specific but perhaps atypical applications: gusts of air, illusions, maybe a prop pseudo-falling on the guests.  ETEC 532, Technology in the Arts and Humanities, explored technology in these less technical, more unusual artsy environments.  But just like the special effects in this hallway, don't be fooled into thinking artsier means easier.  As with most things, this curricular area is dynamically connected with careful engineering and architecture.  It too has its cognitive challenges and joys, and I had my fun along with it.  In the end, however, my careful manoeuvering through the hallways, with sensitive responding to the gentle gusts and discoveries, produced a careful analysis of how technology could - or perhaps should - most immediately affect my practice.
