About Me

I am Vicki Schrader, teacher of English language learners and student of educational technology.  While my official journey as a student in UBC's MET program is nearing an end, we know that - especially with technology - learning never really ends. MET has provided with a foundation in educational technologies that I never thought I would have, but perhaps more importantly, it has taken me on a journey of theoretical analysis to ensure a foundation critical of my whys and hows.

Technology is not a be-all-end-all, but it is an undeniable aspect of our lives and so must have a place in education.  As such, it is important that educators know  what to use, when to use it, how to use it, and most importantly why they are using it.  With my adventures in MET, I have established a foundation on all these points.  With my adventures in MET, I will continue to challenge myself to always know my rationales for choosing - or not choosing - technology.

Thanks for visiting.  I hope you find this portfolio both enjoyable and informative.

My Guests

I have constructed my portfolio under the considerations that you, my visitor are my assessors and colleagues.

As my assessors, you - I expect - shall use this composition to judge my learning and advancement as a pedagogically-sound and technologically-adept educator.

As my colleagues, you - I hope - will glean tools deemed beneficial, rationales, and methods that will prove helpful in practice.

You are welcome to question me, thus encouraging me to continue my growth and active pursuit of current and sound theory and rationales for my own practice.  Your feedback and interactions are welcome in the spirit of collaboration and constructivist learning so endeared in MET methodology and instrumental to our growth.

So if we're ready - wait!  For all the fun and frivolity, it can be easy to get lost, be it at the amusement park or in the funhouse itself.  Take a moment for navigation tips below.

Navigation

The main attractions are the Portfolio Funhouse and the Architecture that supports it.

You may choose to visit either of these in entirety before proceeding to the next or you may choose to flip back and forth, as though you were consulting a map as you moved through a maze.  Personally, I think this would make my head spin, especially as I continue to struggle with the mirror links anchored to the individual courses in the architecture.  Note: if you choose this route & use the mirrors, you will have to click on the course name that the link takes you to in order to expand the text.  I would visit the entire portfolio of artifacts and then peek behind the façade at the architecture.  Sometimes it's fun to peek behind the curtain before it's time.  It's designed so that you can if you want; I leave that up to you.  As in a real funhouse, move and explore as you see fit.  Perhaps you will choose a blended approach to navigation, much as I am wont to take a blended approach to teaching.

I recommend starting with Artifact 1, the foyer of the funhouse.  For the fearful, you can request a guided tour to get you started.

Let's go!
